Lee Seaman became involved with Gatehouse Press before Norwich Designer was born, in 2006. MD of Gatehouse, Tom Corbett, invited Lee to work on a logo and website for the new publishing business. He came up with a mark and brand that Gatehouse Press continues to use today.
The logo took inspiration from the hub of the company, the Gatehouse. On the logo, the doors of the Gatehouse doubled as a book cover and pages hang down from the roof. The lettering that accompanies the mark to form the logo had originally been a serif font which was used in the early days, but a slight brand refresh was later needed and so it was changed to the bolder sans serif font which is used up to this day. The logo is used on all of the book covers.
The green band that goes across the top of the website has been used since day one in various forms, as the website has been refreshed occasionally. The homepage contains a grid view of books that can be bought online through the website, and short news stories which link to the full stories.
The homepage also contains short bios on the team, clicking on each member would display a bio below it. A podcast was launched by Gatehouse Press which Lee was able to include on the website. The main website was also accompanied by an online forum which offered help and inspiration to writers from around the world. The forum originally carried a similar look to the website, but later took on a "notepad" theme that Lee developed, although this still retained the top banner of the main site.
Not only was Lee involved in the creation of the brand he worked on their first eight book covers, from slight alterations to existing artwork, to full designs from scratch. The website is currently being redeveloped by another designer.
